HOOKED ON BOOKS CITY-WIDE BOOK DRIVE
Tragically, many children do not have a book to call their own! The Trent Green Family Foundation is teaming up with Reach Out and Read Kansas City's Hooked on Books Event to change that. They are challenging elementary schools to compete in Hooked on Books' city-wide drive designed to put a book in the hands of a disadvantaged child.
Since its inception in 1998 by The Kansas City Star, Hooked on Books has collected nearly 785,000 new or gently used books for at-risk children ages birth to 14.
Schools can participate by completing an online application available at: www.rorkc.org\hob. Rainy Day Books will also serve as a community drop-off for anyone who would like to donate a book now through Feb. 25th. Monetary donations may be made online at www.reachoutandreadkc.org by selecting the DONATE NOW button. For more information, contact the Hooked on Books Hotline, 913-940-8219, or email email@example.com.
Individual tickets will be available for purchase, $60/person, in mid-January 2014.

Reading is the cornerstone of a healthy life. In fact, there is no stronger single indicator of school success and good health than the ability to read.
Reach Out and Read® Kansas City partners with pediatric doctors to make books available for children at every well-child visit from birth to five years of age.
Reach Out and Read® Kansas City is a pediatric early literacy program serving Kansas City's most vulnerable children. We make literacy promotion a standard part of pediatric primary care, so that children grow up with books and a love of reading.
Reach Out and Read® Kansas City trains doctors and nurses to advise parents about the importance of reading aloud and to give books to children at pediatric check-ups from birth to five years of age, with a special focus on children growing up in poverty. By building on the unique relationship between parents and medical providers, Reach Out and Read® helps families and communities encourage early literacy skills so children enter school prepared for success.
