Guidelines for Accepting Books
Reach Out and Read Kansas City is happy to accept donated books for children through our distribution center at KU Pediatrics, KU Medical Center.
- Donations of New Books are preferred. Reach Out and Read Kansas City has a bibliography of favorite books to choose from, carefully selected to meet the developmental needs of the children served by our program.
- Used Books should be gently used (covers and pages intact, clean and readable). Hard cover picture books with brightly colored pictures and interesting stories are ideal.
- Board books are greatly appreciated, and Spanish and bilingual books are in great demand.
- Books for children between the ages of birth to five years are in the greatest demand, although books for older children are also needed.
- Books about religion and sensitive issues like divorce, abuse or death are not accepted.
Donations should be sent or delivered to KU Children's Center (Miller Building), just south of the main entrance to KU Medical Center on Cambridge. The 4-story, red brick Miller building is located off the corner of Olathe and Cambridge and has a circle drive where you may temporarily park to unload the books (which may be left at the front desk). Please be sure to include your name, address, and phone number.

Book Drives/Events
Book drives are wonderful activities for neighborhoods, school groups, service organizations or companies. Inviting guests to bring books to birthday parties, anniversaries or other events is a perfect way to celebrate reading and provide books for children who might not otherwise have them.
